Heartland Truly Moving Pictures Announces Poster Design Contest for 2007 Heartland Film Festival
May 15, 2007
Indianapolis, IN – Heartland Truly Moving PicturesTM is inviting professional and student artists to create an original work of art to commemorate the 2007 Heartland Film Festival®, which will take place October 18-26 in Indianapolis. The piece should visually depict this year’s Festival theme, “Dramatically Different,” and represent Heartland’s mission “to recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the positive values of life.”
The winning work of art will be used to create a commemorative poster that will be distributed to Festival sponsors, filmmakers and special guests that attend the 16th annual film festival. Heartland will retain the original winning artwork to display in its office. Additionally, the winning entry will be used for promotional purposes and will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization.
The winning artist will receive a $1,500 cash prize and name recognition on the poster, on Heartland’s Web site, in earned media, and in the film festival guidebook, which is distributed at various special events and screening locations in Indianapolis. The artist also will be asked to participate in the unveiling of the poster during Heartland’s Announcement Celebration on September 5.
Judging will take place the week of July 30, 2007. Entries will be judged by a committee comprised of Heartland staff, volunteers and professionals from the marketing communications industry. They will consider overall impact of design, artistic merit, creativity and the appropriateness of the subject matter as it relates to the Heartland Film Festival. The winner will be selected by August 6, 2007.
Artwork must be two-dimensional, and the size cannot exceed 30” x 40” or a nominal length of 70.” All entries must be submitted to the Heartland office by 5 pm on Friday, July 27.

About Heartland Truly Moving Pictures:
Heartland Truly Moving Pictures, a non-profit organization, seeks to recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by expressing hope and emphasizing the best of the human spirit. Its flagship event, the Heartland Film Festival, launched in 1991 and runs each October in Indianapolis, Indiana, screening independent films from around the world. Every year, the Festival awards $200,000 in cash prizes and presents its Crystal Heart Awards to the Festival’s top-judged submissions. Heartland has awarded more than $1.6 million to support filmmakers during the last 16 years. The organization's Truly Moving Picture Award was created to honor films released theatrically that align with Heartland’s mission. By bestowing a watermark to honored films, the award allows studios and distributors to inform potential audiences of a film's uplifting message and appeal. Heartland is also dedicated to its relationship with the National Collaboration for Youth and its expanding F.I.L.M., “Finding Inspiration in Literature and Movies,” project.
