November 2, 2007
| Indianapolis, IN – Martian Child has received the prestigious Heartland Truly Moving Picture Award from Heartland Truly Moving Pictures™. It was announced today by Jeffrey L. Sparks, president and CEO of the Indianapolis-based organization. The film stars John Cusack as a science fiction writer who, bereaved by the loss of his wife, adopts a young boy who harbors the conviction that he is from Mars. |
Distributed by New Line Cinema, “Martian Child” is a drama based on a short story by renowned sci-fi writer David Gerrold. Cusack stars as David Gordon, a man trying to rebuild his life after the death of his wife. With the support of his close friend Harlee (Amanda Peet), he considers adopting a young orphaned boy, Dennis (Bobby Coleman), who desperately wants a father. Despite the warnings of his sister Liz (Joan Cusack), and the children’s group home director Sophie (Sophie Okonedo), David ultimately makes the decision to take on the role of father to the odd youngster. However, he soon finds himself in over his head, as the boy insists that he is from Mars. A series of strange occurrences soon leads David and Harlee to believe that the boy’s claim may be true after all.
“‘Martian Child’ is an extraordinary story about friendship, family and accepting who you are, and about believing in the impossible,” said Sparks. “We know the wonderful story and characters in this film will endear audiences across the country.”
“Martian Child” joins other 2007 Truly Moving Picture Award recipients “The Seeker,” “Becoming Jane,” “Gracie,” “The Hip Hop Project,” “Meet The Robinsons,” “A Mighty Heart” and “Ratatouille,” among others.
